"This work comes from my first trip to Ucluelet, the first solo journey I had the opportunity to take in a while and I was thrilled. On my first morning, walking through the town and along the aptly named Artist Loop, I was struck by the rugged coastline. Tucked away I found a tiny creek and a tree with a split trunk; an image that stayed with me instantly, and one I knew I wanted to paint." - Mel Gausden, 2025
