Between Shadows

About this work the artist says:
"This painting began from a photo my husband took while we were hiking through Sooke Potholes in search of waterfalls. Along the way we crossed paths with a cast of characters - a couple mid-argument, a woman warning us of a cougar, and a man who insisted we’d been together for forty lifetimes. What stayed with me most, though, was the light that day, and the small details, like my yellow toque, that made the moment unforgettable." - Mel Gausden, 2025
