Artist description:

“Well the girls are out to bingo and the boys are gettin’ stinko
We think no more of Inco on a Sudbury Saturday Night”
– Stompin’ Tom Connors

Sudbury is kind of the halfway point between my home in
the ‘Sault’ and Toronto which I called home for 27 years
Sudbury is also a symbol of resilience
It grew back its green spaces after having a nickel factory and the mining industry taking priority over the land for many years
My parents both worked in factories
My dad made steel nails at Sivaco
My mother worked at Hoover universal making foam car seats
This was my future
An art teacher I had
in secondary school in Woodstock, Ontario
even asked me if my parents could get me into the factory to work because he didn’t believe in my ‘messy’ style
I never learned to ski or skate
but I drew every day of my life
How much more Canadian can you get than Stompin’ Tom

-Casey McGlynn, 2026

-----

Casey McGlynn’s mixed media paintings are instantly recognizable for their richly layered surfaces and expressive, tactile intensity. The artist constructs highly textured compositions, giving each work with a sense of history, movement, and raw authenticity. Rips, tears, and staining are characteristic of the artist's technique, and are intentional additions to the artist's lively compositions.

McGlynn’s work merges abstraction with narrative, drawing on autobiography, memory, and pop culture symbolism. His canvases pulse with vibrant colour, gestural mark-making, and graphic elements. Figures, animals, and symbolic forms often emerge from the surface, layered within a visual language that is at once playful, emotional, and deeply introspective.

Influenced by artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat and Cy Twombly, McGlynn’s paintings balance spontaneity with intention, bridging fine art and contemporary visual culture. The result is a body of work that feels immediate and alive, appealing to collectors seeking bold, statement-making contemporary art with depth and character.
