Will Robinson creates sculptural works in stone that explore form, texture, and presence. Working primarily with basalt and granite, his sculptures balance polished surfaces with raw, rugged textures, inviting viewers to engage with each piece.
Born in Bremerton, Washington, Robinson studied history at the University of Washington before dedicating his career to sculpture. His practice emphasizes an intuitive relationship with stone, allowing each material’s inherent qualities to guide the emerging form. Large-scale works reveal contrasts of light, shadow, and surface, creating dynamic tension that is simultaneously grounded and fluid.
Robinson's sculptures are carved from basalt stone and granite using large-scale stone saws; sculptures are polished with diamond belts to create smooth surfaces with subtle divits and impressions in the stone surface. Rough, polished, and striated sides often appear in a single sculpture. Robinson's work can be safely installed outdoors.
