Exquisite Corpse (Polyptych)
The title of this work comes from the name of the game where different people draw on a folded piece of paper and then unfold it to reveal the whole. I drew connecting lines on each following piece (as you would in the game) so that the pieces lined up, and made one whole tree out of different trees and with different mediums. I have always appreciated the figurative nature of trees, especially the arbutus, and the title also plays on the plight of our arbutuses. As I revisit my favourite trees it is heartbreaking to see them die and fall. It is an ode to these trees and their enduring beauty at all stages of their rise and fall.
– Cori Creed
Creed's oil paintings reveal swatches of canvas, and incorporate spontaneous gestural, textured painting with instances of both varnished and matte surfaces. Works can be hung framed or unframed.
