The ‘Flying Houses’ photomontages of Laurent Chéhère (b. Paris, 1972) invoke a sense of wonderment, nostalgia, and limitless imagination. Informed by creative luminaries such as Jules Verne, Hayao Miyazaki, Moebius and Robert Doisneau – among others – Laurent channels hundreds of photographic elements into fantastically creative scenes, transporting us into his dream-like world.

Using the cosmopolitan neighbourhoods of Paris as inspiration, Laurent isolates buildings of the urban context and releases them from the anonymity of the street. Assembled like puzzles, the artist allows the observer to discover hidden details amongst these imaginative narratives. He seeks to bring beauty to the mundane and reconnect with the fantastical notions of youth.

Laurent Chéhère is represented Internationally and has shown at Photo Basel (Switzerland), Paris Photo (France), and Pingyao Photo Festival (China). His work is also in the collections of the Tokyo Institute of Photography (Japan) and the New York Hudson River Museum (US), among others. His practice has been featured in numerous publications such as Time, The Guardian, Vogue and Vanity Fair.

The artist lives and works in Menilmontant, a district in the French capital.
