George Byrne is an internationally recognized contemporary photographer known for his minimalist, large-scale architectural photography prints. Based in Los Angeles, Byrne creates striking fine art photographs that transform urban landscapes into bold, abstract compositions - making his work highly sought after by collectors, designers, and galleries worldwide.
Specializing in Los Angeles architectural photography, Byrne captures the city’s pastel walls, geometric structures, and sunlit surfaces, turning everyday scenes into visually refined, painterly abstractions. His work is often associated with minimalist photography, contemporary wall art, and abstract urban landscapes.
Influenced by modernist painting and the New Topographics movement, Byrne’s photography is defined by clean lines, vivid color fields, and a masterful use of light and shadow. His signature style, featuring soft pastel tones, sharp geometric forms, and carefully cropped perspectives, positions his work at the intersection of fine art photography and contemporary design.
Since beginning his Los Angeles series in 2010 with a medium format camera, Byrne has developed a globally recognized visual language. His work resonates with audiences drawn to minimalism and architecture, while maintaining strong roots in art history and formal composition.
Born in Sydney, Australia in 1976, Byrne graduated from Sydney College of the Arts in 2001. His work has been exhibited internationally, including in Los Angeles, New York, Italy, India, and Australia. He was named Minimalist Photographer of the Year in 2020 and received recognition in the Fine Art category of the Minimalist Photography Awards in 2019. His works continue to gain global attention as timeless yet modern statements in contemporary art.
