EMERGENCY AT UHN | ABOUT
The Emergency Departments (EDs) at UHN are on the front lines of health care. Available 24/7, they provide world-class, specialized, compassionate care in one of the most dynamic cities in North America.
Our Emergency Medicine team comprises 90-plus physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, and over 200 nurses across two sites: Toronto General Hospital and Toronto Western Hospital. They handle some of the most complex medical emergencies on behalf of the entire UHN family, which includes Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
Emergency Departments are the safety net of the healthcare system; they had to be ready to serve as the initial testing centres for COVID-19. Prior to and during this pandemic, our EDs have had the knowledge to care for the sickest and most complex patients in the country due to our highly skilled experts across all programs. Our hospital is a provincial and national referral centre and people come here from across Canada for our specialized care.
Our Emergency Departments, through The Michener Institute of Education at UHN and through our collaboration with the medical school at the University of Toronto, are fostering the development of the best emergency medicine leaders of tomorrow.
