UPCOMING EXHIBITION: Countenance
June 18-30, 2022
Opening Saturday, June 18th, 1-3PM | Artist in Attendance
350 Dundas Street West, Toronto
Bau-Xi Photo is pleased to present Countenance, a feature exhibition of new works by the Toronto-based photographer, Virginia Mak. The artist is well known for her luminous images of lone figures. Her work is characterized by its soft focus and minimized light values, which disrupt the boundary between painting and photography and push the medium beyond traditional limits.
Countenance is an on-going series exploring the human face. Our face is our front, what we present to others. A face expresses emotion, or predicament. We can recognize a face by the overall shape, or the gestures that accompany it. Even if we were to squint our eyes, thus blurring what we see, we can make out traces of the persona, the potential of a “self”.
