Sheri Paisley (Bakes)
Sheri Paisley's work explores the connection between internal and external landscapes, with a focus on breath, spirit, and wind. Through abstract and loosely rendered scenes, she examines the dynamic tension between form and formlessness, as well as the invisible forces that shape our experiences. For Paisley, painting is a way to engage more deeply with the world, using color, mark-making, and gesture to process life's complexities and connect with the flow of energy in nature. Drawing inspiration from the shifting winds and light of the Canadian West Coast, her work seeks to evoke a sense of wholeness and unity. Ultimately, Paisley aims for her paintings to create a meditative space where viewers can reconnect with the interconnectedness of all things.
Paisley received a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art and Design in 1998 and began exhibiting in 2002. She lives and works on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Paisley has exhibited in Europe, New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, Toronto and Vancouver. Her work has been placed in numerous private collections across North America and Europe, and in permanent collections including with Dubai's Emaar Properties, Enunciate Conferencing, Toronto Dominion Bank, UBC Psychiatric Hospital, Vancouver General Hospital, St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver, BC, Swedish Hospital in Seattle, and Overlake Hospital in Bellevue.
Kevin Chong wrote for the Globe and Mail: "Her brooding wind-swept scenes highlight tensions not only between the sky and land but also between the physical landscape and the world of the mind."
