Anne Griffiths Releases Her First Book: Mapping Nature
Abstracted landscape artist Anne Griffiths’ debut publication, Mapping Nature, brings together a body of work rooted in a non-linear cartography of the natural world. Rather than documenting specific vistas, her paintings function as maps of memory and sensation translating the shifting weight of light and open spaces into a deeply personal, painterly language. Grounded in deliberate colour theory, Griffiths charts what traditional cartography leaves out, mapping a geography that transcends borders and connects viewers to the universal experience of being enveloped by nature.

This limited-edition, 138-page book presents works from 2022 to 2025, each a quiet conversation between memory and abstraction. Griffiths' background in graphic design informs an acute compositional sensibility; her understanding of negative space, colour repetition, and a refined palette allows a natural rhythm to emerge on the canvas. These patterns echo the visual cadence of the natural world, oscillating between close, intimate detail and the grand, atmospheric whole.
Accompanying the artwork is an essay by Toronto-based curator and arts writer Tatum Dooley, who thoughtfully situates Griffiths’ practice within the broader lineage of landscape art. Dooley offers a contemporary lens on how Griffiths translates experience into pigment, exploring how these tactile paintings serve as a map to understanding both the world around us and the interior emotional spaces we carry within.
Anne Griffiths lives and works in Victoria, British Columbia, maintaining an international practice that bridges her Canadian foundations with a growing global presence.
Mapping Nature will be available at Bau-Xi Vancouver beginning Saturday, June 6 at Anne Griffiths' solo exhibition opening reception and book signing from 2-4 pm.
