Burnham trained under noted Canadian artists Don Jarvis and Toni Onley, and studied fine art and architectural rendering at the Vancouver School of Art (now Emily Carr University of Art + Design) and the University of Victoria. His work is included in prominent collections such as the City of Vancouver, the Edmonton Art Gallery, Athabasca University, and Polygon Development. A recipient of multiple awards, including two Canada Council Short-Term Grants, Burnham continues to live and work on Vancouver Island, where the surrounding landscape remains a constant source of inspiration.
Burnham's work is characterized by a smooth painted surface composed of both oil and acrylic paint, with a varnished surface. Multiple, thin layers of paint create an impression of a canvas that glows from within. Wrapped canvas sides are finished with black paint and are ready to hang unframed.
