Location: Copenhagen, Denmark

"Photographed at the Arne Jacobsen-designed gas station just north of Copenhagen, with this image I chose to push the architecture into something more abstract and constructed. Elements are reworked and layered to create a scene that plays with time, space, and surface. Like much of the Synthetica series, it hints at ideas beyond the everyday - drawing on personal interests in theosophy, symbolism, and the unseen structures behind the built world." - George Byrne

Byrne creates large scale photographs that depict architectural surfaces and landscapes as painterly abstractions. Borrowing from the clean, vivid clarity of modernist painting, he also references the New Topographics photography movement via a subject matter firmly entrenched in the urban everyday.

All works by the artist are printed with a slim white photo-paper border and framed in white with plexiglass.
