Moon Phase
Vicky Christou is a Canadian contemporary abstract artist known for her highly tactile dimensional paintings that explore the dynamic interplay of colour, pattern, and spatial perception. Working primarily with acrylic paint, Christou meticulously builds her surfaces through the hand-application of countless linear marks, creating richly textured compositions that shift and evolve with light and movement.
Her work is distinguished by its optical complexity, where colour relationships, repetition, and proportion generate a sense of visual vibration and depth. These immersive surfaces blur the boundaries between abstract painting, low-relief sculpture, and textile-like craft, positioning Christou’s practice at the intersection of material experimentation and perceptual illusion. Each piece invites prolonged viewing, revealing subtle chromatic transitions and intricate structural rhythms.
Born in Melbourne, Australia, Christou immigrated to Canada in 1969. She is a graduate of the Emily Carr College of Art and Design and currently lives and works in East Vancouver. Christou’s work is recognized for its innovation within abstract painting and its appeal in both private and corporate collections.
Christou’s paintings are presented unframed and ready to hang.
