Kathryn Macnaughton in House & Home
In this month's issue of House & Home, two Kathryn Macnaughton pieces proudly hang in an Anne Hepfer-designed Toronto penthouse, awarded House & Home of the Month.
Both large in scale, Burst and Bustle exemplify the artist's innovative approach to painting; a medium synonymous with tradition. Since graduating from the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) in 2007, Macnaughton has pushed the boundaries, taking inspiration from collage, cut-outs, vintage palettes, and digital illustration.
Each abstraction is a compositional and textural experiment in acrylic paint. Full of movement, each canvas is manifested with the layering of undulating abstract forms over a base layer of organic loose washes. This marrying of two distinct techniques results in exhilarating canvases of contradiction: at once contemporary and timeless, flat and sculptural, compiled and uniform, static and unmistakably alive.
Kathryn Macnaughton is scheduled to exhibit a new body of work at Bau-Xi Toronto in March 2021, with select artwork made available for the 2020 edition of Art Toronto in October 2020.
