"Offering myself and my craft to fire, I seek to develop an understanding of the
elemental relationship between fire and earth, manifested in the clay vessel.

Wood is reduced to its fundamental components as it burns—its minerals
return to the soil while carbon is carried into the atmosphere. Experimenting with clay
bodies and combustible materials, I observe and record the chemical reactions which
trap carbon in the clay, imparting spontaneous patterns on the surface. Building upon a
reverence for fire observed in Zoroastrian teachings, through this series of vessels, I
reinterpret ancient Persian forms to investigate the potential of pit-firing techniques,
simultaneously deepening my understanding of the land and environment."
