Brian Kipping
For almost 30 years, Brian Kipping has offered us his interpretations of the urban landscape. His most recent exhibition focused on Toronto’s Union Station and the traffic that surrounds and defines it.
Kipping, born 1953 in Edmonton, Alberta passed away in April of 2007. After graduating from the Ontario College of Art in 1974, he received the first of two Canadian Arts Council grants in 1976. Kipping has had approximately 150 exhibitions in 30 years, including solo exhibitions in all of Canada’s major city centers. He has traveled in group shows across Canada and overseas. Kipping is such a well-known Canadian painter that in 2002, the Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa held a major 25 year retrospective exhibition on his work and career, accompanied by a full colour catalogue. His work is in numerous collections including the Windsor Art Gallery, the Canadian Council Art Bank, and the MuseeD'ArtContemporain in Montreal.
