Eric Louie Painting Featured in Concord Skybridge Condo

Horizon Gate, a large scale artwork by emerging Canadian talent Eric Louie is the feature artwork in the new Concord Skybridge development, a unique project near Toronto's Canoe Landing Park.

Speaking on the creative process, the artist states that "the paintings’ figural [and] architectural elements were meant to act as sentries, both denying and admitting the viewer to pass through into the infinite horizon. The center path guides one to the space beyond these imposing forms. I thought it was a different way to participate in landscape painting".

\With a keen awareness of the play of light and shifting visual weight, the soaring organic forms of Louie's abstract painting layer together weightlessly balance within the composition to evoke the suspended architecture surrounding it. This effect is reinforced as the shifting bands of colour which delineate the canvas seem to echo the changeable skies and vistas outside the floor-to-ceiling windows. Eric Louie's distinctive style, with its emphasis on luminous shapes and illusory reflection captures the essence of the polished surfaces and sleek materiality of the Toronto skyline.

Louie holds a B.F.A from the Alberta College of Art and Design, where he was awarded the prestigious Jason Lang Scholarship. His work is included in numerous private and public collections including CIBC, Encana Energy, NBC Studios, Paramount and MGM Pictures, as well as the City of Calgary.
