The artist's intention was to compose collages that blend content with colours and shapes. Working in the darkroom with film negatives, Mak placed painted rice paper over the photographic paper during the enlarging process. The resulting photographs shift from straight portraits to more poetic pictures.
Mak's soft-focus images blur the boundary between painting and photography. The artist's inkjet prints have a UV laminate; they are mounted to an archival substrate and framed in white.
