What A Dream
Eric Louie is a Vancouver-based contemporary painter known for his luminous, sculptural abstractions. Louie’s paintings are defined by their radiant, metallic-like surfaces and organic, dimensional forms. Built through the meticulous application of many thin layers of luminescent oil glazes, each work achieves a remarkable sense of depth, light, and movement. Louie’s surfaces give the illusion of sculptural presence, allowing forms to emerge, recede, and transform depending on the viewer’s perspective.
His abstract compositions allude subtly to landscape, still life, and even portraiture, creating immersive visual worlds that feel both familiar and otherworldly. This ambiguity invites contemplation, encouraging viewers to navigate between representation and abstraction while forming their own interpretations.
Louie holds a B.F.A from the Alberta College of Art and Design, where he was awarded the prestigious Jason Lang Scholarship. His work is included in numerous private and public collections including CIBC, Encana Energy, NBC Studios, Paramount and MGM Pictures, Facebook Google, and the City of Calgary.
