Works by Toronto-based painter, Erin Armstrong, are included in a Vogue Living feature of an opulent Toronto home designed by award winning boutique design firm, Ali Budd Interiors.
When speaking of the elegant interiors and the firm's use of layering, Vogue Living writes, "carefully chosen art, like the Erin Armstrong artwork in the living room, provides another layer of colourful ambience to the space." Armstrong is a skilled colourist—this, in part, stems from her training in graphic design.
ABOUT ERIN ARMSTRONG
Erin Armstrong (1990-present) is a contemporary figurative painter who looks to the human imagination as a source of inspiration. Particularly interested in the ways the mind can conjure and create worlds by piecing together memory and experience, and the ability of the mind’s eye to render a non-reality, Armstrong draws on the genre of portraiture as a foundation to build upon.
Stylistically, Armstrong’s paintings on canvas are populated by flat organic forms, sinuous lines, and repeating graphic patterns. The artist’s past as a graphic designer has informed her mark making and compositional tendencies. Armstrong has no formal fine art training.
Erin Armstrong has been represented by Bau-Xi Gallery since 2016.
