Coming from Away
The title of Sylvia Tait's "Coming From Away" is inspired by the Maritimes phrase used to describe individuals without generations of history in the region.
The artist explores this notion with concentrated abstract fragments evocative of urban topography. The composition is delineated by a strong boundary, outside of which exist forms, attached and adjacent.
Tait's abstract works on canvas and paper incorporate colour fields with blocks of saturated, multi-layered texture and fragmented forms.
