The artist states "Water Feature III has a lot in common with Koi Pond thematically in relation to climate change and the reclamation of land by the natural world. The figures, once monuments to human civilization, are stripped of their identities and find themselves slowly swallowed by water and flora. The water that spills forth from the figures represents how the figures themselves have contributed to their own demise. This painting plays very blatantly with contrasting themes of death and birth, and destruction and creation. Life always finds a way. "

Nguyen's illustrative paintings employ a variety of techniques using oil paint and pastel on a canvas surface. Rife with narrative symbols, her dramatic tableaus sing with chaotic tension and humorous undertones. Painted in jewel tones and highlighted by soft-hued pastels, starkly contrasted by bold gestural markings, Nguyen's works are ready to hang framed or unframed.
