Robert Cadotte’s most recent paintings possess expressive brushwork, high colour contrast, and a surreal quality of light. His worked and re-worked surfaces have a blurred, almost nostalgic feel that evokes the memory rather than the actuality of his subject matter. The fantastic quality of these works is enhanced by odd angles of approach – as if the viewer is seeing the image from the air, or in some instances, coming upon the setting from below. Cadotte studied at the School of Art & Design in Montreal.
Cadotte states, "I look at my work as energized abstraction that alludes to landscape but does not attempt to imitate it." His work is included in many private and public collections, such as the Canada Council Art Bank, London Life Company, National Research Council of Canada, Trimark Corporation and Lynwood Arts Centre.
